A Total Waste of Makeup
Last night we met to discuss the book A Total Waste of Makeup by Kim Gruenenfelder. We ate chili and had a turtle pie for dessert. We had similar opinions of the book. Our first thought was that there wasn't anything gripping about the story. There wasn't enough of a hook for us. The other main part of the discussion was about how happy we are that we are not part of that sort of lifestyle. While it may be glamorous, it's just not for us. We'd rather have our kids and husbands any day. We didn't like that the main character whined about not having money, yet her boss is constantly flying to her various locations and buying her expensive things. It was difficult to feel sorry for her. We had mixed feelings about whether or not we'd read the second book in the series.
Here is our summary.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Likes: easy, light, quick read
Dislikes: no hook, negative effect on feelings about life
Here is the recipe for the chili.
2 lb. ground beef
2 cans pinto beans
1 packet chili seasong
2 cans diced tomatoes and green chilies (Rotel)
Brown the ground beef. Add seasoning. Drain the beans and Rotel if you wish. I drained both cans of beans and one can of Rotel. I added the liquid from one can of Rotel to the chili. Add beans and Rotel. Mix well. This chili can be put in a slow cooker to simmer or it can be served immediately. Serve with shredded cheese and saltine crackers.
Our next meeting with be at the beginning of December. We selected the book Mistletoe Murder by Leslie Meier. The theme for December's book will be books that were made into movies.
